Organization and amount of heterochromatin in olive, Olea europaea, and related species are discussed. Significant differences were found. It appears that inter- and intraspecific changes in the nuclear and genomic traits seen can help to advance understanding of phylogenetic relationships and in defining those things used in varietal identification in cultivated olives

Article Abstract:
A study to explain the spatial genetic structure and the dynamics of the Laperrine's olive (Olea europaea subsp. laperrinei), a long-living tree from the central Saharan mountains is presented. The study proves that long distance gene flow gets highly limited by the desert barriers.

Article Abstract:
The evolution of the invasive olive subspecies, Olea europaea and cuspidata in different regions of Australia and Pacific islands is examined. The olives are not found to display any significant loss of the genetic diversity.
