Article Abstract:
Studies using pre-melted, unpaired DNA template strands show that conserved sigma-N amino-terminal 50 amino acids within Region I are necessary for activator response. Region I sequence activity inhibits pre-melted DNA to productively interact with holoenzyme. This indicates that RNA polymerase isomerization is prevented by Region I in several ways, such as masking single-strand holoenzyme DNA-binding activity.~

Article Abstract:
Bcl-2 has been found to constitutively suppress p53-dependent apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells. RNAi was used to silence Bcl-2 and Bcl-x(sub.L) in isogenic clones of p53+/+ and p53-/- cells, and of BAX+/- and Bax-/- cells. Si lencing of Bcl-2 under normal cell growth conditions has been shown to bring on massive p53-dependent apoptosis.

Article Abstract:
Binding of transcriptional activators to sigma 54 in the presence of the transition state analog ADP-aluminum fluoride is discussed with attention to insights into activator mechanochemical action. Energy transduction seems to occur through activator contacts of sigma 54 Region I.
