Ambient pH is a major determinant in the expression of cuticle-degrading enzymes and hydrophobin by Metarhizium anisopliae

Article Abstract:

The expression of cuticle-degrading proteolytic and chitinolytic enzymes by the insect pathogen Metarhizium anisopliae under strongly varying pH conditions was examined. The study sought to determine whether changes in pH serve as a physiological signal that induce the production of putative virulence determinants. An attempt was also made to find out whether hydrophobins were regulated by pH. The findings are discussed.

Indole-diterpene gene cluster from Aspergillus flavus

Article Abstract:

Two genes atmG and ggsA are cloned from Aspergillus flavus using degenerate primers for conserved domains of fungal geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthases. The study broadens ones understanding of indole-diterpene metabolite biosynthesis in filamentous fungi and provides the first genetic evidence for the biosynthetic pathway of aflatrem in Aspergillus flavus.

Lack of host specialization in Aspergillus flavus

Article Abstract:

Aspergillus flavus can infect plants and insects and unlike Aspergillus nidulans and Aspergillus fumigatus, it can invade living tissue. P2c pectinase and protease isozymes had no effect on the pathogenic specialization of A. flavus.
