Alpha-mannosidase-II deficiency results in dyserythropoiesis and unveils an alternate pathway in oligosaccharide biosynthesis

Article Abstract:

The biological function of alpha-mannosidase-II (alphaM-II) was analyzed during the synthesis of complexed asparagine-linked oligosaccharides in alphaM-II mutant mice. Genetic deficiency in alphaM-II induced the disappearance of erythrocyte complex N-glycans. However, alphaM-II gene deficiency did not inhibit the synthesis of complex asparagine-linked oligosaccharides in nonerythroid cells due to cell-specific variations in N-linked oligosaccharide formation.

Dietary and genetic control of glucose transporter 2 glycosylation promotes insulin secretion in suppressing diabetes

Article Abstract:

Pancreatic beta cell-surface expression of glucose transporter 2(Glut-2) is essential for glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, thereby controlling blood glucose homeostasis in response to dietary intake. Beta cell glucose-transporter glycosylation mediates a link between diet and insulin production that typically suppresses the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes.

Developmentally regulated glycosylation of the CD8(alpha)(beta) coreceptor stalk modulates ligand binding

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the glycan structural changes associated with the cellular differentiation. The role of the glycan adducts to the O-glycosylated polypeptide stalk tethering the CD8(alpha)(beta) coreceptor to the thymocyte surface has been investigated and the results are reported.
