Advanced environmental surveillance and molecular analyses indicate separate importations rather than endemic circulation of wild type 1 poliovirus in Gaza district in 2002

Article Abstract:

The findings from an improved sewage surveillance algorithm for wild and vaccine-derived polioviruses are presented. It revealed that the environmental wild type 1 isolates from the Gaza district in 2002 were imported from Egyptian southern governorates and were not linked by endemic circulation.

Thermal inactivation of foot-and-mouth disease viruses in suspension

Article Abstract:

The heat resistance of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) strains isolated from outbreaks in Thailand is examined in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). The results have shown that the heat resistance in PBS of FMDV strains from Thailand is less than that found in foreign epidemic FMDV strains.

Infectivity of RNA from inactivated poliovirus

Article Abstract:

Research compares the virion infectivity and RNA infectivity of inactivated poliovirus type 1. Results suggest that the viral RNA is a primary target of ultraviolet light and hypochlorite inactivations, whereas viral caspid is a target for thermal inactivation.
