Adhesion of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria (Cordyceps) bassiana to substrata

Article Abstract:

A quantitative assay used to determine the binding qualities and adhesion substratum preferences of Beauveria bassiana aerial conidia, blastospores, and submerged conidia is described. The variations in the cell surface properties leading to the different adhesion qualities of B. bassiana aerial conidia, blasotspores, and submerged conidia could lead to rational design decision for improving the efficacy and possibly the specificity of entomopathogenic fungi for host targets.

Expression of a novel small antimicrobial protein from the seeds of motherwort (Leonurus japonicus) confers disease resistance in tobacco

Article Abstract:

A novel small protein with antimicrobial activities, designated LJAMP1 which was purified from the seeds of a medicinal herb, motherwort (Leonurus japonicus) is described. The bioassay showed that LJAMP1 inhibits the growth of an array of both fungi and bacteria and the comparison of the antimicrobial potencies of different antimicrobial proteins from plants, LJAMP1 displays a satisfied inhibitory effect against Alternaria alternata, Cercospora personata, Aspergillus niger.

Increased insect virulence in Beauveria bassiana strains overexpressing an engineered chitinase

Article Abstract:

Beauveria bassiana is an entomopathogenic fungus that secretes the enzyme chitinase to dissolve the cuticle of insects during infection. A hybrid chitinase gene was shown to have more virulence than the wild type gene.
