Additive genetic variation of transcriptional regulation: Metallothionein expression in the soil insect Orchesella cincta

Article Abstract:

Midparent offspring regression analysis of metallothionein (mt) gene expression in a laboratory culture originating from a noncontaminated natural population of Orchesella cincta is described. The results suggest that evolution of metal tolerance in O. cinta can occur in the field by selection for high mt expression due to structural changes in mt cis-regulation.

Allelic diversity of metallothionein in Orchesella cincta (L.): Traces of natural selection by environmental pollution

Article Abstract:

The alleles and allele frequencies among European metal-stressed and reference populations are used to assess whether the metallothionein (mt) gene of Orchesella cincta (Collembola) is subjected to selection. The results have shown that the mt gene and its surrounding DNA region are affected by environmental metal contamination.

Transcription of the 5S rRNA heterochromatic genes is epigenetically controlled in Arabidopsis thaliana and Xenopus laevis

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the 5S ribosomal DNA, the highly conserved recurring multigenic species, is done to exhibit that 5S rDNA is highly regulated at various levels and that epigenetic mechanisms like changes of the chromatin structure, are involved in organisms, Arabidopsis thaliana and Xenopus laevis.
