Article Abstract:
Research concerning the aerobic biodegradation of aromatic compounds is discussed. The elucidation of the 2-amino-4-methylphenol metabolism pathway during the 4-nitrotoluene degradation by Mycobacterium strain HL 4-NT-1 is discussed.

Article Abstract:
Synchronized growth and hydrophobicity of cells are responsible for the maintenance of a steady-state biofilm in a continuous-flow fixed-bed reactor during the biodegradation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol by Pseudomonas cells. Increase in dilution rate increases the hydrophobicity of immobilized sessile cells, while it exerts no influence on the hydrophobicity of detached suspended cells. Cell detachment is facilitated by the differences in the hydrophobicity of sessile and suspended cells.
