Article Abstract:
The process of salt adaptation in Synechocystis 6803 is aided by an active uptake system of osmoprotective compound glucosylglycerol (GG). GG uptake rate is five times higher in salt-adapted cells than in control cells. In the former, GG is synthesized de novo and gets accumulated in concentrations corresponding to external salinity for photosynthesis and growth restoration under high salt conditions. GG uptake is dependent on metabolic energy and is inhibited by uncouplers, and a combination of darkness and KCN. Trehalose and sucrose compete with GG for uptake.

Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that group 3 sigma-factors are involved in cyanobacterial acclimation ability to environmental stresses as shown by gene mutation study. Data show that mutants exhibit varying degrees of acclimatization to stress mediated by stress-stimulated proteins.

Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the cyanobacteria. The abilities of these bacteria to synthesize poly-3-hydroxybutyrate and poly-beta-hydroxyalkanoic acid synthase that accounts for the synthesis of this polyester have been investigated and reported.
