Activation of nuclear receptor coactivator PGC-1alpha by arginine methylation

Article Abstract:

A report that the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1alpha (PGC-1alpha) coactivator activity is potentiated by arginine methylation by protein arginine methyltransferase 1 (PRMT1), another nuclear receptor coactivator is presented. PGC-1alpha, a tissue-specific and inducible transcriptional coactivator for several nuclear receptors, plays a key role in energy metabolsim.

Plasticity and expanding complexity of the hepatic transcription factor network during liver development

Article Abstract:

Inactivation of HNF-4alpha in embryonic, but not in adult, liver results in the diminished expression of most hepatic factors, demonstrating that the stability of the network correlates with its complexity. These results illustrate the remarkable flexibility of a self-sustaining transcription factor network, built up by complex dominant and redundant regulatory motifs in developing hepatocytes.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-lambda coactivator 1alpha (PGC-1alpha) regulates triglyceride metabolism by activation of the nuclear receptor FXR

Article Abstract:

A scientific experiment was carried out showing that peroxisome proliferator-activated coactivator 1alpha (PGC-1alpha) regulates adaptive thermogenesis and glucose metabolism. Ectopic expression of PGC-1alpha in murine primary hepatocytes reduces triglyceride secretion by a process that is dependent on the presence of Farnesoid X receptor (FXR).
