Absconding with the chaperone: essential cyclophilin-Gag interaction in HIV-1 virions

Article Abstract:

The gag gene regulates the assembly and uncoating of human immunodeficiency-1 (HIV-1) virions by encoding Capsid proteins (CA) and cyclophilin A (CyPA) cytoplasmic proteins. The HIV-1 Gag polyproteins mediate the release of enveloped virions by collecting viral components such as genomic ribonucleic acid and Env glycoproteins which are necessary for virion assembly. Furthermore, a stable CyPA and CA complex in necessary for protein-protein interaction during the replication of HIV-1 virions.

Can the immune response control HIV infection?

Article Abstract:

Living viruses can create the best immunity to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). The epidemiological evidence that HIV-2 infection may prevent infection with HIV-1 means that a considerable degree of cross-protection is achievable. It shows that HIV mutational changeability may not be as grave a problem as it was supposed to be. For the time being, it looks improbable that live attenuated viruses will be used as vaccines in developed countries.

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 Gag protein binds to cyclophilins A and B

Article Abstract:

The interaction between cyclophilins (CyPs) A and B and the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) Gag polyprotein Pr55-gag plays an important role in acquired immunodeficiency syndrowe (AIDS) immunopathology. CyPs play a significant role in directing proteins to proper locations within cells.
