A toll-interleukin 1 repeat protein at the synapse specifies asymmetric odorant receptor expression via ASK1 MAPKKK signaling

Article Abstract:

A study is carried out on a stochastic lateral signaling interaction between two developing Caenorhabditis elegans AWC olfactory neurons causing them to take on asymmetric patterns of odorant receptor expression, called AWC(super OFF) and AWC(super ON). The studies show that the AWC lateral signaling gene tir-1 encodes a conserved post-synaptic protein that specifies the choice between AWC(super OFF) and AWC(super ON).

A missed exit: Reelin sets in motion Dab1 polyubiquitination to put the break on neuronal migration

Article Abstract:

Reelin pathway mutants have both activated and down-regulated its intracellular effector Dab-1 (Disabled-1) by inducing its phosphorylation that caused its targeting by an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex (EBC) containing SOCS family proteins and Cullin5 (Cul5). Impairment of down-regulation mechanism has led to a unique phenotype in the cortex where neurons have migrated past their target layer.

Nurr1-RXR heterodimers mediate RXR ligand-induced signaling in neuronal cells

Article Abstract:

The presence of endogenous retinoid X receptor (RXR) ligands in the embryonic central nervous system (CNS) is demonstrated and shown that they can activate heterodimers formed between RXR and the orphan NR Nurr1 in vivo. Evidence for a role of Nurr1as a ligand-independent partner of RXR in its function as a bona fide ligand-activated nuclear receptor (NR) is provided.
