Article Abstract:
Vibrio harveyi VIB 645 contains two copies of a gene for hemolysin rather than one as most other strains. However, it still produces low levels of gene-specific RNA, indicating that the two copies do not result in greater production of hemolysin.

Article Abstract:
A PCR method detects the pathogenic bacteria Renibacterium salmoninarum by extracting DNA from rainbow trout infected kidney homogenates and head kidney lymphocytes. The technique can detect 10 to 100 cells of the pathogen. The 376-bp region of the gene encoding the 57-kDa major surface antigen is the target for DNA amplification. The use of this method to examine an experimentally infected rainbow trout reveals that it is a reliable plate culture method.

Article Abstract:
Oxytetracycline (OT)-resistant isolates of Aeromonas salmonicida transferred the OT resistance to phenotype Escherichia coli by high-molecular-weight R-plasmids. The OT resistance determinant is the 5.4-kb EcoRI fragment on R-plasmids found in the 19 OT-resistant isolates of A. salmonicida. The OT resistance plasmids of the 19 isolates contain the class A resistance determinant and are not identical.
