A reanalysis of the indirect evidence for recombination in human mitochondrial DNA

Article Abstract:

Three recently published data sets of complete mtDNA sequences along with 10 RFLP data sets were analyzed to resolve the controversy about whether recombination occurs in human mtDNA. It is hard to quantify the overall significance of the findings due to nonindependence and lack of evidence for recombination in human mtDNA.

Further evidence for paternal inheritance of mitochondrial DNA in the sheep (Ovis aries)

Article Abstract:

The mitochondrial DNA of 172 sheep from 48 families are typed by using PCR-RFLP, direct amplification of the repeated sequence domain and sequencing analysis. The findings provide direct evidence of paternal inheritance of mitochondria DNA in sheep.

Direct evidence of recombination in human mitochondrial DNA

Article Abstract:

The direct demonstration of recombination in human mtDNA has a number of important implications. The results show that recombination between maternal and paternal mitochondrial DNA is possible.
