Article Abstract:
Researchers describe seven mutants of Mycobacterium smegmatis that had defects in stationary-phase survival. Homologous genes were found in the Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome that code for a penicillin-binding protein and a polyketide synthase.

Article Abstract:
A Mycobacterium smegmatis purF mutant has been found to have limited survival in the oxygen-starved stationary phase. A range of transposon mutants of M smegmatis was shown to be not greatly affected in oxygen-starved stationary-phase survival. Implications for M. tuberculosis exist because the M. smegmatis purF gene encodes a protein much like the PurF homologues of M tuberculosis and M. leprae. The gene was cloned and shown to substantially complement the oxygen-starvation phenotype.

Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on cyanide-insensitive oxidation regulation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The authors suggest that O (sub)2 fails to affect cyanide-insensitive oxidase expression in P. aeruginosa due to the loss of the exponential-phase-specific repressing signal.
