Article Abstract:
Analysis of the protein encoded by SFE9 (Stronglyocentrotus purpuratus fertilization envelope) reveals the presence of three regions of sequence repeat structure in SFE9. One of the regions exhibits significant similarity to the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-receptor. During fertilization reaction SFE9 is incorporated and covalently cross-linked into the fertilization envelope. Specific protein-protein interactions are influenced by the strong repeat regions and the LDL-receptor unit of SFE9.
