Article Abstract:
Integration host factor (IHF) is a protein that induces a sharp bend in DNA. It inhibits DNA-looping-dependent transcriptional activation by an enhancer-binding protein that is not suitable and facilitates similar activation by a suitable enhancer-binding protein. The consequence of these opposing effects is increase in the specificity of activation of a promoter susceptible to control by a protein distally bound. A protein-induced bend in DNA increases specificity of a prokaryotic enhancer-binding protein.

Article Abstract:
A study reveal that a combination of transcription factor binding, histone acetylation, nucleosome remodeling complexes and histone variant H2AZ target promoter nucleosomes for displacement upon gene induction to clear space for assembling the transcription machinery. Results reveal that moreover, nucleosomes are displaced during transcription elongation, where it is necessary to restore them to block TATA-like sequences in transcribed region to prevent cryptic sites of initiation.

Article Abstract:
A high-resolution primer extension method showed novel relationships between repair, transcription and mutagenesis in RNA polymerase III transcribed genes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In vivo repair of UV-induced DNA alteration by nucleotide excision repair (NER) and by photoreactivation is shown to prefer the nontranscribed strand (NTS) of the SNR6 gene.
