A program in PASCAL for tracing the maternal parent in pedigree analysis

Article Abstract:

A maternal parent tracing program for pedigree analysis has been developed. The program uses the PASCAL computer language. It was developed to trace the extreme maternal parents of cultivars accompanied by complete pedigrees. The program can also compute the relative genetic contribution provided by the maternal parent. The program requires two files, the pedigree file and a data file comprised of codes of lines which can be used to trace the ultimate maternal parents.

Inbreeding in Japanese quail estimated by pedigree and microsatellite analyses

Article Abstract:

The level of inbreeding in an inbred line of Japanese quail is investigated by comparing 2 methods such as microsatellite markers and pedigrees. Results reveal that use of less intensive inbreeding scheme was effective in developing an inbred line of Japanese quail.
