Article Abstract:
A study report about the first round of cell division, meiosis 1, characterized by the homologous chromosomes and not the sister chromatids which are segregated to opposite poles of spindle is presented. The findings reveal that in meiosis 1, kinetochores on homologous chromosomes are captured by microtubules from the same pole to ensure separation of homologs (reductional division) during anaphase 1.

Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to show that condensin facilitates the removal of cohesin from chromosomes during the first meiotic division of budding yeast and that this removal is important to dissolve the links between homologs that ensure proper homolog segregation. This provides an example of a functional connection between cohesin and condensin, two different SMC complexes.

Article Abstract:
The exchange of genetic material between maternal and paternal chromosomes, during meiotic crossover, is controlled in order to restrict the number of crossovers per chromosome pair. It is reported that the reduction of crossover-initiating events does not result in lesser number of crossovers, which have important significance in the understanding of crossover control.
