A novel p34(super.cdc2)-binding and activating protein that is necessary and sufficient to trigger G2/M progression in Xenopus oocytes

Article Abstract:

A novel p34(super.cdc2)-binding and activating protein necessary and sufficient to trigger G2/M progression in Xenopus oocytes is discussed. Cloning of two novel cDNAs that induce meiotic maturation efficiently when expressed in oocytes is reported. The cDNAs encode proteins of 33 kD that are 88% identical with no significant homologies to other sequences in databases.

Nanos2 suppresses meiosis and promotes male germ cell differentiation

Article Abstract:

The significance of Nanos2 in the suppression of meiosis in female germ cells and the differentiation of the male germ cells are highlighted. The results show that the complex maintains meiosis suppression, in addition to the activation of the genetic program by the induction of male-type differentiation.

Mad2 prevents aneuploidy and premature proteolysis of cyclin B and securin during meiosis I in mouse oocytes

Article Abstract:

A study showing the depletion of Mad2 in meiosis I mouse oocytes induces an increase incidence of aneuploidy is discussed. It is concluded that the Mad2 delays the onset of cyclin B and securin degradation and averts aneuploidy during meiosis I in mammalian oocytes.
