Structural basis of caspase inhibition by XIAP: differential roles of the linker versus the BIR domain

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) which are characterized by the presence of the baculoviral inhibitor of apoptosis repeats (BIRs). The crystal structure of the complex between the human caspase-7 and XIAP (BIR2 and the proceeding linker) has been investigated and the results indicate that the linker is the only contacting element for the caspase and BIR2 domain is invisible in the crystal.

Tsg101 and the vacuolar protein sorting pathway are essential for HIV-1 budding

Article Abstract:

Results show that HIV-1 budding requires a vacuolar protein sorting pathway protein, Tsg101. It binds to a tetrapeptide motif of the Gag protein P6 domain and to ubiquitin.
