A novel bacteroidetes symbiont is localized in Scaphoideus titanus, the insect vector of flavescence doree in Vitis vinifera

Article Abstract:

Flavescence doree, is a grapevine disease caused by the bacterium 'Candidatus Phytoplasma vitis' and spread throughout the vineyards by a leafhopper, Scaphoideus titanus. A survey was conducted to characterize the bacterial microflora associated with S. titanus using length heterogeneity PCR and the results reveal that this endosymbiont and "Ca. Phytoplasma vitis" have a partially overlapping colonization pathway in the insect body, colocalizing in the fat body and salivary glands.

Comparison of different primer sets for use in automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis of complex bacterial communities

Article Abstract:

ITSF and ITSReub, constituting a new primer set designed for the amplification of the 16S-23S rRNA intergenic transcribed spacers, was compared with different primer sets previously proposed for automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (ARISA) of complex bacterial communities. Results demonstrate that the ITSF/ITSReub primer set emphasizes the capacity of ARISA to powerfully explore microbial diversity and to create complex, easy-to-analyze molecular fingerprintings.

Diversity of bacillus anthracis strains in Georgia and of vaccine strains from the former Soviet Union

Article Abstract:

Multiple-locus (MLVA) and other molecular typing methods were used to investigate Bacillus anthracis diversity in Georgia and to characterize vaccine strains used in former Soviet Union. The MLVA-based data establishes genetic diversity of Bacillus anthracis in Southern Caucasus.
