A new bacterial steroid degradation gene cluster in Comamonas testosteroni TA441 which consists of aromatic-compound degradation genes for seco-steroids and 3-ketosteroid dehydrogenase genes
Article Abstract:
The authors describe the study on Comamonas testosteroni TA441 which degrades via A ring aromatization. They have investigated steroid degradation gene cluster in TA441, and report that these genes are induced when TA441 is incubated with steroids and not with aromatic compounds, indicating that the genes funcion only in steroid degradation.

Phylogenetic diversity of nitrogen fixation genes in the symbiotic microbial community in the gut of diverse termites
Article Abstract:
Research conducted on the amplification and characterization of the dinitrogenase reductase gene compares nitrogen-fixing microorganism constituents in termite guts. Phylogenetic analysis demonstrates diversity within the diazotrophic populations in the termite gastrointestinal system.

Serial analysis of rRNA genes and the unexpected dominance of rare members of microbial communities
Article Abstract:
Serial analysis of rRNA genes (SARD) method is described for surveying microbial communities. It shows that the microbial communities make a large contribution to ecosystem function.
