A methylation-mediator complex in hormone signaling

Article Abstract:

The Nuclear hormone Receptors (NRs) superfamily of transcription factors regulates gene expression in response to small lipophilic ligands whose binding promotes the recruitment of coregulators that reverse the block to transcription imposed by condensed chromatin. An experiment revealed that the coregulators typically display either histone-modifying activities that utilize the energy of ATP -dependent chromatin remodeling activities that utilize the energy of ATP hydrolysis to promote the accessibility of transcription factors to hormone response elements.

Nuclear receptor TLX prevents retinal dystrophy and recruits the corepressor atrophin1

Article Abstract:

Orphan nuclear receptor TLX (NR2E1) was implicated in ocular development during mammalian embryogenesis, as Tl[x.sup.(-/-)] mice exhibit visual impairment. Genetic and biochemical approaches show that TLX modulates retinal progenitor cell proliferation and cell cycle re-entry by directly regulating the expression of Pten and its target cyclin D1and it interacts with atrophin1 (Atn1) essential for development of multiple tissues.

Mechanism of corepressor binding and release from nuclear hormone receptors

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that hydrophobic core sequence motifs from specific nuclear and hormone receptors mediate receptor binding and release during developmental events in vertebrates. Mechanistic aspects of this process are discussed.
