The University of North Carolina and the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University have decided to merge and open a joint venture, which will have the ability to transform scientific research, as well as the local economy of the state in unprecedented ways. The development of this collaboration in the Piedmont Triad will provide a combination of professionals of all the fields, which will attract a large number of companies and institutions.

Article Abstract:

Oliver Smithies, the Professor of Pathology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a genetics pioneer, who invented starch-gel electrophoresis, enabling easy protein separation and completely changed the way that genetics is done. Smithies has started focusing on many subtle individual variations, those responsible for common diseases like atherosclerosis and hence have contributed majorly to the development of genetics in the state.

Translating academics to applications

Article Abstract:

Most of the North Carolina's academic medical centers are carrying out researches to encourage students to develop more innovative treatments for various diseases, which can be easily seen by the newly developed method for the production of stem cells. The organizations are no more based on the companies and are leading to discoveries at their own cost, which in the near future will be able to reduce the healthcare costs tremendously.
