A genomewide search finds major susceptibility loci for nicotine dependence on chromosome 10 in African Americans

Article Abstract:

A genomewide scan of individuals of African American (AA) origin was conducted to identify susceptibility loci for nicotine dependence (ND) in an African American sample. Results revealed significant linkage on chromosome 10q22 and suggestive linkage on chromosomes 9, 11 and 13 for major genetic determinants of ND in the AA sample, and three regions on chromosomes 15, 17 and 18 that showed potential linkage to ND.

A unified association analysis approach for family and unrelated samples correcting for stratification

Article Abstract:

A unified association analysis approach is employed to examine family-based and case-control samples for obtaining time corrects for population stratification. The method is found to be extremely accurate, as it can be used for both qualitative and quantitative traits.
