A freshwater anaerobe coupling acetate oxidation to tetrachloroethylene dehalogenation

Article Abstract:

The strain TT4B is a gram-negative, rod shaped, anaerobic bacteria that grows with acetate as the electron donor and tetrachloroethylene as the electron acceptor in a mineral medium. The product of the dehalogenation reaction is cis-dichloroethylene. Growth occurs in a hexadecane solution containing 50-200 mM tetrachloroethylene and anaerobic mineral solution containing Na2S. The growth is inhibited if the tetrachloroethylene levels are greater than 100 micro-M.

Production and characterization of a thermostable alcohol dehydrogenase that belongs to the aldo-keto reductase superfamily

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted on the gene encoding a novel alcohol dehydrogenase that belongs to the aldo-keto reductase super-family, in the hyperthermophilic archaeon Pyrococcus furiosus. Results show that the thermostability of the enzyme is indicated by its catalytic activity.

Degradation of azo dyes by laccase and ultrasound treatment

Article Abstract:

The decomposition of azo dyes is investigated by oxidative methods, such as laccase and ultrasound treatments. The lactase treatment suggested that high decolorization rates but cannot degrade all investigated dyes, and high anionic strength led to enzyme deactivation.
