A dermal HOX transcriptional program regulates site-specific epidermal fate

Article Abstract:

A study is done to show that expression of a distal-specific gene, HOCA13, is required and the transcriptional targets are sufficient to maintain epidermal inductive properties of distal fibroblasts. It is concluded that maintenance of appropriate HOX transcriptional program in adult fibroblasts serve as a source of positional memory to differentially pattern the epithelia during homeostasis and regeneration.

Notch promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition during cardiac development and oncogenic transformation

Article Abstract:

The promotion of EMT (Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition) during both cardiac development and oncogenic transformation by Notch activity is demonstrated. Notch is expressed in an embryonic region where EMT occurs, suggesting an intimate and fundamental role for Notch that may be reactivated during tumor metastasis.

Epithelial polarity and proliferation control: links from the Drosophila neoplastic tumor suppressors

Article Abstract:

The data from mammalian studies is implemented for analysis on how epithelial polarity and proliferation can be linked and how disruption of polarity can promote cancer. The role of the fly 'neoplastic tumor suppressor genes' in controlling cell polarity and proliferation is reviewed.
