A computer investigation of chemically mediated detachment in bacterial biofilms

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on three-dimensional bacterial biofilm model. The authors present a description of their study of the model which combines diffusion-reaction equations for chemicals and a cellular automata detachment algorithm used for stimulation of bacterial growth, movement and detachment.

Hypothesis for the role of nutrient starvation in biofilm detachment

Article Abstract:

A combination of experimental and theoretical approaches is used to integrate the role of nutrient starvation as a potential trigger for biofilm detachment. The results support the conjecture that nutrient starvation is an environmental cue for the release of microbes from a biofilm.

Dynamics of microbial communities on marine snow aggregates: colonization, growth, detachment, and grazing mortality of attached bacteria

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on microbial communities attached to the agar spheres. The authorts have investigated the dynamics of these communities and the processes of their colonization, detachment, growth and grazing mortality.
