A complex alloantigen system in Florida sandhill cranes, Grus canadensis pratensis: evidence for the major histocompatibility (B) system

Article Abstract:

A study conducted on the determination of a polymorphic alloantigen system in Florida sandhill cranes, Grus canadensis pratensis, shows that they have one major alloantigen system. This alloantigen system is probably the Mhc system of the B blood group. In the study 17 out of the 20 haplotypes defined were due to the crane alloantisera and the rest were defined by reactions with chicken reagents. Thus the antigens present in the cranes are probably similar to the B-F and B-G molecules of chicken.

Detection of RFLP markers associated with antibody response in meat-type chickens: Haplotype/genotype, single-band, and multiband analyses of RFLP in the major histocompatibility complex

Article Abstract:

Marker-assisted selection (MAS) is expected to be an effective breeding approach in poultry. The major histocompatibilty complex (MHC) is known to affect immune response and disease reistance, and was examined as candidate genes for association between DNA markers and antibody response. Multiband data generated with class IV probes were used to compare the efficacies of three alternative analysis, single band, multiband, and genotype.
