A chitin-binding domain in a marine bacterial chitinase and other microbial chitinases: implications for the ecology and evolution of 1,4-beta-glycanases

Article Abstract:

Investigations on the chitin-binding and chitin-hydrolyzing domains of chitinases reveal that these domains of the enzyme evolved independently of each other. To investigate the function of the chitin-binding domain, site-directed mutagenesis was performed on the gene coding for this enzyme in Vibrio harveyi. Results indicate that the chitin binding domain directs the movement of the enzyme along the chitin strand.

Isolation of Aspergillus niger creA mutants and effects of the mutations on expression of arabinases and L-arabinose catabolic enzymes

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on four Aspergillus niger creA mutants relieved of carbon repression to determine whether their metabolic systems are controlled by repressor protein CREA. The mutants arabinase and L-arabinose expressions were analyzed using Western blotting. Results have shown that the CREA is involve in the D-glucose repression of arabinases and L-arabinose catabolism.

Aspergillus enzymes involved in degradation of plant cell wall polysaccharides

Article Abstract:

The review discusses plant cell wall polysaccharide degrading enzymes by Aspergillus in terms of the genes coding for the enzymes and their genetic regulation. Data show that bulk of these enzymes are highly glycosylated proteins. Industrial applications of these enzymes are also presented.
