A calcineurin-dependent transcriptional pathway for cardiac hypertrophy

Article Abstract:

The role of the calcium-dependent phosphatase calcineurin in the pathogenesis of cardiac hypertrophy was investigated. Transgenic mice that express activated forms of calcineurin or transcription factor NF-AT3 in the heart were generated. Results show that calcineurin dephosphorylates NF-AT3 which in turn interacts with the cardiac zinc finger transcription factor GATA4. It was also found that calcineurin induces and blocks cardiac hypertrophy in vivo and in vitro.

Twist regulates cytokine gene expression through a negative feedback loop that represses NF-kappaB activity

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on dorsal transcription factor which activates twist expression during Drosophila embryogenesis. Results demonstrate that mammalian twist proteins are induced by cytokine signaling pathway which requires RelA protein, a member of the NF-kappaB family of transcription factors.
