A bifunctional O-GlcNAc transferase governs flagellar motility through anti-repression

Article Abstract:

The first bacterial O-linked N-acetylglucosamine transferase (OGT) is identified that is specific for a prokaryotic protein as GmaR, a DegU-regulated flagellin glycosyltransferase that mediates [beta]-O-linked GlcNAc modification of flagellin (FlaA) in Listeria monocytogenes. The results have established GmaR as the first known example of a bifunctional protein that transcriptionally regulates expression of its enzymatic substrate.

Nuclear receptor ERR[alpha] and coactivator PGC-1[beta] are effectors of IFN- [gamma] induced host defence

Article Abstract:

The article describes that IFN [gamma] induces the expression of many nuclear genes encoding mitochondrial respiratory chain machinery through activation of the nuclear receptor ERR [alpha]. This shows that ERR[gamma] and PGC [beta] together act as a key effector of IFN- [gamma] induced mitochondrial ROS production and host defence.

Wnt signaling in Xenopus embryos inhibits Bmp4 expression and activates neural development

Article Abstract:

Results show that early expression of wnt8 and associated genes besides inducing synthesis of neural-specific markers also inhibit Bmp4 expression in Xenopus. Data further indicate that wnt8 encoded protein Wnt8 inhibits Bmp4 expression at early stages of gastrulation.
