A bead-based method for multiplexed identification and quantitation of DNA sequences using flow cytometry

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that a direct hybrid capture assay in a multiplexed, bead-based format incorporating nucleic acid hybridization on the surface identifies specific sequences in a mixture of DNA sequences. Data reveal that the bead method exhibits superior sequence discrimination capabilities and detects quantitatively the unknown DNA sequences.

Stimulating the in situ activity of Geobacter species to remove uranium from the groundwater of a uranium-contminated aquifer

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that in situ bioremediation of uranium-contaminated groundwater can be accomplished by maintaining long-term activity of Geobacter species. Data show that addition of acetate to the groundwater stimulates the growth of Geobacter species, which coupled with their long-term growth remove uranium from the groundwater in situ.

Research has been conducted on picoeukaryotes. The authors describe the protocol developed for the quantification of these picoeukaryotes in the natural environment via the use of flow cytometry and tyramide signal amplification-fluorescence in situ hybridization.
