Genetically modified Vibrio harveyi strains potential bioindicators of mutagenic pollution of marine environments
Article Abstract:
Results demonstrate that biodetection of mutagenic pollution in marine environments can be monitored by genetically altered Vibrio harveyi marine bacteria. Data show that the sensitivity of the mutagenicity test is comparable to the widely used Ames test.

A Vibrio harveyi insertional mutant in the cgtA (obg, yhbZ) gene, whose homologues are present in diverse organisms ranging from bacteria to humans and are essential genes in many bacterial species
Article Abstract:
A Vibrio harveyi insertional mutant in the cgtA (obg, yhbZ) gene is discussed. Homologues of the gene are in various organisms ranging from bacteria to humans and are essential genes in many bacterial species. Defects in diverse cellular processes found in the insertional cgtA mutant of V. harveyi indicate that in a bacterium that neither sporulates nor displays other special development programs, the CgtA protein is involved in the regulation of many critical biochemical reactions, perhaps at the stage of signal transduction.
