A Smad transcriptional corepressor

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to show that Smad2 associates with the ubiquitously expressed homeodomain protein, TGIF. The formation of mutually exclusive complexes were determined by the relative levels of Smad corepressors and coactivators within the cell. A two-hybrid library with a LexA fusion was utilized to determine the proteins that participate in transforming growth factor-beta signaling.

The polycomb protein Pc2 is a SUMO E3

Article Abstract:

Research shows that the transcriptional corepressor carboxy-terminus binding protein, CtBP, undergoes modification on a single lysine residue mediated by SUMO-1 or SUMO-3. Furthermore, the polycomb group protein Pc2 is a SUMO E3 and recruits both CtBP and Ubc9 to polycomb group bodies, which may influence transcription by mediating sumoylation of specific target proteins.

Riboswitches control fundamental biochemical pathways in Bacillus subtilis and other bacteria

Article Abstract:

The metabolite binding domains or riboswitches control operons and exhibit high affinity and high selectivity for guanine. Results show that in Bacillus subtilis seven distinct target molecules in conjunction with known classes of riboswitches control 68 genes involved in metabolic pathways.
