A 12 kb nucleotide sequence containing the alanine dehydrogenase gene at 279 degrees on the Bacillus subtilis chromosome

Article Abstract:

A random sequencing strategy was utilized to characterize the biochemical functions of proteins that were encoded in the 12 kb DNA fragment that was located between the rrnB and the pai genes of the Bacillus subtilis genome. Inverse Long Range polymerase chain reaction of the chromosomal region containing the ald gene led to the isolation of a DNA fragment of 12315 kb that was composed of twelve open reading frames. Furthermore, the 12 kb DNA fragment contained genes that were designated as yukA-F, ald and yukI-M.

Analysis of the Bacillus subtilis genome: cloning and nucleotide sequence of a 62 kb region between 275 degrees (rrnB) and 284 degrees (pai)

Article Abstract:

Genetic research has established the nucleotide sequence of a 62 kb region between 275 degrees (rrnB) and 284 degrees (pai) of the organism Bacillus subtilis. Inverse and combinatorial long-range PCR methods were used to clone five deoxyribonucleic acid sections for nucleotide analysis. They contained 41 newly-identified ORFs. Nineteen predicted proteins were isolated and found to be like those in other physiological pathways.

Sequence of the Bacillus subtilis genome region in the vicinity of the lev operon reveals two new extracytoplasmic function RNA polymerase sigma factors SigV and SigZ

Article Abstract:

The sequencing of two Bacillus subtilis genome regions with sizes 18,900 and 25,400 bp revealed two new genes designated SigV and SigZ. These genes encode proteins similar to RNA polymerase sigma factors, which belong to the extracytoplasmic functions subfamily. The two encoding proteins can not bind to DNA without RNA polymerase core enzyme because they do not have a N-terminal sequence.
