16S ribosomal DNA characterization of nitrogen-fixing bacteria isolated from banana (Musa spp.) and pineapple (Ananas comosus (l.) Merril)

Article Abstract:

The nitrogen-fixing bacteria Herbaspirillum seropedicae, Herbaspirillum rubrisubalbicans, Burkholderia brasilensis, and Burkholderia tropicalis were isolated from banana and pineapple using 16S ribosomal DNA restriction analysis and 16S rRNA sequence analysis. Eight other species related to the alpha and beta Proteobacteria were also identified.

Bacillus spore inactivation methods affect detection assays

Article Abstract:

Biodetection assays for Bacillus anthracis spores will produce different results depending on whether the spores are activated or inactivated. Consequently, field assays may produce different results than assays done in a laboratory using inactivated spores.

Solid-phase capture of proteins, spores, and bacteria

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe the ImmunoFlow system, which captures bacteria and spores in food samples without a preenrichment step. It can detect E. coli and Bacillus even when fewer than 10 cells are present.
