Accountants can help local governments meet the goals of ecologically sustainable development (ESD). Ways in which accountants can help include developing environmental accounting guidelines, helping establish ESD principles, and managing the changes needed to achieve ESD. Accountant may have to analyze different types of environmental accounting systems to determine the best system to use in a particular situation.
