The Ralph Committee will provide the Australian government with a list of tax options that could result in changes to the way citizens are taxed in the country. The committee, which has no power to implement the tax suggestions, identified many issues that the government could consider for reform. Some of these issues include handling goodwill, wasting assets, and trading stock.

Lease incentives and taxation consequences

Article Abstract:

Lessors of commercial buildings are still offering long term leases. Lease incentives include free fit-outs and rent holidays. All transactions of this nature will be affected by the goods and services tax. The implications upon lease incentives will include no goods and services tax on free fit-outs.

Budget 1999 and tax - most decisions put on 'hold'

Article Abstract:

The 1999 Australian budget did not address many taxation issues. The goods and services tax was only passed by the Senate and income tax measures will have to await completion. Tax laws passed on collective investment options and provided for additional deductions.
