New Australian Society of Chartered Practising Accountants (ASCPA) national president David Boymal believes that the proposed merger of the organization with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia will be the biggest issue he faces during his tenure. Boynal's comments on that issue and other issues of importance to the ASCPA and the accounting profession are presented.

Accounting firms must have a strategic marketing plan in place to ensure that they can manage change. This strategic marketing plan needs a mission statement, marketing objectives, corporate objectives, financial planning and a systems evaluation. When all of these components are merged then there will be tangible results.

A survey of accountants found that job satisfaction is dependent upon several issues. Satisfaction with the work, with co-workers, with supervisors, with salary and with promotional opportunities were evaluated. Most accountants decided to leave their jobs based upon promotional opportunities.
