Article Abstract:

The challenges associated with establishing an independent administration in East Timor are discussed. Particular attention is given to human resources management, including the tax collection function. It has now been possible to develop a legal and administrative structure for a tax system.

The Australian Dept of Finance and Administration strongly backs the goal of improved comparability in government reporting. Areas where improvements need to be made include consolidation of controlled entities and comparability to other countries.

Off to a good start: R&D projects can benefit from the Start Program

Relatively few taxpayers in Australia are aware of the existence of the R&D Start Program. This tax concession gives a 125% tax deduction for 'eligible R&D expenditure' arising from R&D activities.
