In 1999, the Australian government proposed a number of business tax reforms that it has not been able to deliver within the proposed timeframe. At the request of CPA Australia, the government released on 22 March, 2001, its adjusted timetable for the implementation of the proposed tax reforms.

Issues are presented concerning the advantages and disadvantages, which apply to small business enterprises, of the Simplified Tax System which is due to come into effect on July 1, 2001. Companies with turnover below 1-million Australian dollars are affected.
