The role of accountants in the Australian banking industry continues to expand. The changes that have affected the industry have made accountant more valuable than merely crunching numbers. Accountants are increasingly taking on new roles as banks strive to leverage accountants' financial and analytical skills. Some of the key factors of the accounting profession of the future include the ability to communicate effectively, the ability to understand global perspectives, and the ability to make use of technical skills.

Issues include undestanding how the level of equity, debt structure, senior debt, and mezzanine debt affect a bank's ability to fund a management buyout. Additionally, a final due diligence will need to be performed to ensure that enough cash flow exists.
