Article Abstract:
Bobby Rahal led 102 of the 133 laps at the Rio 400 on May 12, 1997. However, Rahal had fuel problems and it was Paul Tracy in his Penske PC97-Mercedes who won despite leading the race for only three laps. Tracy explained that he was faster in the corners while Rahal was quicker on the straightaway.
