Article Abstract:

John Philip celebrated his silver anniversary of writing about cars by testing a McNeilus AutoReach Volvo WX64 Dual-Drive Expeditor, the Bentley Continental of garbage trucks-a 444-cubic inch engine producing 800 pound-feet of torque, a 12.5-foot chromo exhaust pipe, and a tilt-forward cockpit. The truck was fitted with a 9.5-foot articulate claw that resembled the pincers of a three-ton lobster that Captain Nemo might have battled.
