A road enthusiast describes his travel along the coast of California's Highway 1 which is one of the greatest roads in the world. To add to his joy at driving the route, he was given the free use of a 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster which he used for his travel.

The condition of freeways and other roads in the US needs to be improved. Money collected from increased gasoline taxes could be used solely to finance maintenance and repair of roadways as it is in Europe.
