The discontinuation of the Thunderbird may spell the end of Ford participation in the nearly 50-year-old Winston Cup series. One alternative for Ford is to develop a stock edition of the Taurus. The companies remaining in Winston - Chevy and Pontiac - are committed to the '98 season.
