Sports cars Americana: short-lived but significant

Article Abstract:

The production of sports cars intensified between the late 1940s and the mid-1950s due to pent-up demand since civilian car production stopped between Feb 1942 and Jul 1945. Four examples of sports cars manufactured during this period are profiled: the Crosley Hotshot/Super Sports, the Kurtis 500-S, the Kaiser-Darrin and the Woodill Wildfire.

Sons and sports cars: how misery in Turn 7 strengthens a mother's bond

Article Abstract:

The social impact of sports car racing is exemplified in a mother's account of her son's enthusiasm for the sport. The tragedy that she witnessed in Turn 7 of the race track has increased her awareness on the hazards that driving entail. This realization made her concerned about her son's driving.

Winners of the 1997 Kids Automotive Fine Arts Contest are presented. The contest is sponsored by Road and Track magazine and the Automotive Arts Society. Proceeds from the contest will go to the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation.
