Safety: north and south

There is traditionally less concern with automobile safety in southern Europe than in northern Europe. For example, air bags are a becoming popular in Scandinavia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but are of little interest in France, Italy, Spain and Greece.

European Car of the Year

Article Abstract:

The Nissan Micra was named Europe's Car of the Year, with the Fiat Cinquecento in the runner-up spot and the Renault Safrane finishing in third place. This is the first time a Japanese car has won the award.
